We prayed
(falling on knees,
beating chests)
for water.
We cried
as Sun
scorched earth
and
siphoned dams.
We begged
when taps
ran dry.
RAIN!
Send RAIN!
Then
in subsequent torrents,
we cursed clouds
and
shook fists at dirty skies
for
too
much
rain.

Kim suggests writing a Quadrille (44 word poem) at dVerse today using the word “rain.”
We are still on water rationing, but heavy rainfall over a two day period last week caused major flooding.

Oh yes … can we ever be content…

Such extremes of weather and the consequences are difficult to cope with . I love how you’ve captured the despair in the aside in the first stanza, in the capitalised plea in the and in the fourth and the fists being shaken at dirty skies.

How ungrateful we are indeed…Too little or too much, is too extremen. Hard to get a perfect balance of nature, smiles ~

Ha, sounds like my never-can-be-satisfied mother. I’ve never understood (short of life-threatening wrath-storms) how people can complain about the weather. But then this year we had no winter and I found myself gloomy in a near-tropical January!

I’ve discovered just how much we rely on weather. Here our rivers are filled by rain. There’s no mountain snow to feed them, so they are seasonal. If the dams dry up and there’s no rain, we’re in big trouble! 😳

And that’s how Seattle ceased being a desert…. So much truth in this quadrille.

Wow! Was it actually once a desert? The two things I hear people say about Seattle are “rain” and “good coffee.” 😂

Actually, I was indulging in a bit of facetiousness. People don’t tan in western Washington — they rust. As for “good coffee,” I’m too much of a coffee snob to let any of my friends drink SB’s.

Great job and it’s so true how one minute we are begging and the next we are complaining.
I pray it doesn-t flood too much for you.

it sounds a lot like folks here. Why are people never happy with the amount of rainfall? Reminds me of a song from Camelot

Perhaps that’s one of the simple things about a happy life, learning to live in gratitude.

We talk a lot about the weather here in Canada. Never seems to satisfy. Too hot, too cold, too humid, too much snow, not enough snow….and those rainy days. It’s nice when they only come when needed. Nice write. ☺
