Yesterday I learned how to shave.
Today, thinning hair I would save.
Years, they pelt past;
It all flies so fast.
This journey from cradle to grave.

Writing 201: Poetry
Assignment — Day 2:
Prompt: Journey
Form: Limerick
Device: Alliteration
Personal note:
THIS was a challenge of note! Journey — tick.
Limerick — tick. Alliteration — really? 🙂
I managed to get a tiny bit of alliteration in the 3rd and 4th lines.
(I am actually quite mad for alliteration and use it most meticulously, but here I felt my metacarpals were manacled by the multiplex mission. *rolls eyes*)

It’s dreadfully difficult to deliberately rhyme
and artfully alliterate at the same time!
Feb 17, 2015 @ 21:15:14
Indeed it is! However you seem to be able to do so quite skilfully!
Thanks for your brilliant response! 🙂

That’s a nice one and it’s also true, time flies so fast…
Feb 17, 2015 @ 21:26:09
And I think we feel it the older we get. 🙂 Thanks!

Lovely! I feel the wistfulness in your piece, but I also feel joy that comes in being “pelted”. The limerick format really paid off for this, I think. Thank you!
Feb 17, 2015 @ 21:27:40
Thank YOU! Your response warmed my heart. 🙂

I decided to be content with having been able to write a limerick (although I forgot it was supposed to be funny). Alliteration can wait until another time!
I can certainly relate to your limerick, at least the years going by so fast part…. I don’t shave or have thinning hair! 🙂

Thank you! (I don’t shave or have thinning hair either. 😊)

Beautifully written. “This journey from cradle to grave” is the perfect finisher. Well-done!
Feb 17, 2015 @ 22:54:13
Thanks! Who’d have thought something so small could be so difficult! 😉
Feb 18, 2015 @ 06:43:00
Great work!! Time goes far to fast!!
Feb 18, 2015 @ 06:47:22
Oooh this was awesome! Great job! Loved your comment at the end as well. Alliteration is really kicking my butt right here lol

Thanks, Jade! I just discovered today’s assignment. Oh, boy! They’ve really got us flexing those poetic muscles.
Feb 18, 2015 @ 06:51:42
Indeed! But we can do this!
Feb 18, 2015 @ 12:53:42
Edward Lear meets Jim Croce. Well done!

I am laughing so hard my sides are sore. Thank you for that!

great job! Laughed at the “rolling eyes” part 🙂 I would be doing that a lot if I had to do this.
