jigsaw heart

i like puzzles —
when everything begins in chaos
and ends by fitting together.

algebra problems and their solutions
recipes and a sumptuous meal
an unviewed movie
unread book
unopened letter
an unlived year

sometimes i get so caught up in the pieces
i don’t see how they interlock,
and i walk to the next challenge
before completing the last,
dropping stitches as i go.
and i miss the wonder and joy
which are knit together
(of laughter and tears,
hard work and blessing)
to form a beautiful picture,
a complete equation,
a song of thanksgiving,
a life of reflected glory.
